Don’t confuse this list with the best movies of all time although several in my list would also be included in my all-time favorite movies. I am talking about the movies that seem to always be on TBS, TNT, AMC, HBO, etc. Movies that you are likely to see at 1 PM on a Saturday or a rainy Tuesday night. They are movies that if you are flicking through the channels you always stop on. It doesn’t matter at what point in the movie it is. You just watch. I am talking about those kind of movies. As usual feel free to throw in your two cents in the comments section. Without further ado:
10.) Ghostbusters 1 and 2 - I was obsessed with Ghostbusters growing up. I had everything and anything Ghostbusters. I tried to change my name to Ray for a year. I would only call my sister Janine. I was fucking obsessed. I still love the movies but I will admit I’ve grown out of a bit. I will 100% stop and not change the channel if I see the original however, I will admit, there are times I have just kept flipping when I’ve seen number 2 on.
9.) Tommy Boy - Like a fine wine this movie gets better with age. Each time I watch I like it more and more. I think a little bit has to do with the Chris Farley biography I read a few years back and liked it. He just seemed like a great guy and everyone thought he was the balls. I think because of that and the fact that he hasn’t had a chance to make more bad movies (see Beverly Hills Ninja) I have held him a better light than I probably should. Also, his Best of SNL is one of the tops along with Ferrell, Murphy and Carvey.
8.) Meet the Parents - Yeah, dumb pick, right? Probably but it is one of the few films that I enjoy Stiller in (probably this and Zoolander - hate him in everything else). He was made to play that part. It is also the last role I like DeNiro in before he just becomes a joke. Lastly, I LOVE Owen Wilson in this movie. The dialogue between him and Stiller just kills me every time. A nice early Sunday cable movie.
7.) Revenge of the Nerds – For some reason I’ve always been obsessed with this movie (commenter: because you were a fucking geek). I think they did a great job casting the nerds. You find yourself pulling for them the whole time. I also love the scene where they throw a party and it sucks but then they smoke weed and invite the Moose’s (the fat sorority) and shit just gets wild. The original reason I think I liked was it was one of those movies that I could rent with my father at the movie store that showed naked girls (panty raid scene) but he had no clue. (This is also why I would rent horror movies all the time – always had nude scenes).
6.) Bloodsport – If this was 1996 this might be number 2 or 3 but for some reason it has lost a little bit of the luster it once had. I can’t get enough of the fight scenes. I love how each fighter got their own unique style and shit. My favorite? The guy that fought and moved like a monkey. Yes, he was black.
5.) Rocky 1,3 or 4 – I’d rather go outside and do physical activity than watch Rocky 5. Rocky 2 just doesn’t do it for me. Too much of the same story line from Rocky 1 and not enough boxing. Although I think Rocky 1 is the better movie I love Rocky 3 the most. I love all the Mr. T scenes and I really love the homosexual run Apollo and Rocky do on the beach. My college roommate had that scene down shot for shot.
4.) Hoosiers – The best hoops movie of all time (second: Hoop Dreams). Has all the great elements, underdogs, redemption and a great fucking drunk. I get tears when Shooter is screaming in the rehab bed listening to the game on the ol’ radio. I am getting goosebumps just typing it.
3.) Godfather 1 and 2 – Usually on AMC every other week and if I see it I’m watching. I prefer the sequel to the original but it really doesn’t matter which flick is on. It is one of the ultimate Sunday night movies. I don’t why but I just feel like it is best enjoyed after 6 PM on a Sunday.
2.) Dumb and Dumber – I touched on it a long time ago but Dumb and Dumber for me is the barometer in which all comedies should be compared to. There isn’t one fucking line in this movie that doesn’t crack me the fuck up. Just pure comedy and don’t tell you keep flipping the channels when you this puppy on the screen.
1.) Goodfellas - The fucking best. The movie has all the right actors, all the right drama, all the right comedy and all the right violence. A straight masterpiece. I’ve scene this movie over 100 times and if I see it on later tonight I’m watching. It doesn’t matter where I pick up in the flick. It is obviously better to find it on Starz or HBO so that they don’t bleep out all the swears but honestly doesn’t matter. I just never get tired of this movie.

Major, major, major omission. You’ve got to have Shawshank on that list.
when you’re right you’re right… i fucked that up… i would have that in the 5-8 range probably
Mr. Jeans you beat me to it, Shawshank is number one on my list I can’t get enough of it. Life is a movie I find myself watching. And Ive caught the dark knight a few times lately
i hate Life! it has been on non-stop lately too… i just can’t stand martine lawrence…
shawshank isn’t my number 1 though… but should be on the list
Also, The Back to the Future movies.
back to the future was never my cup of tea…don’t know why I just couldn’t get into them….
this has nothing to do with the article but I was just reading Sports Illustrated and they listed their top 40 sports songs. You will be furious to find out that Curtis Blows “Basketball” came in at 30. As for the article, and i know you’ll hate this but Breakfast Club has to be on there. characters are fantastic.
haha how you remembered my hate for john hughes…. i wouldnt say the breakfast club is terrible but id watch the other 10 over that first
kurtis with a K
I’ve watched Shawshank and Casino once a week for the last month just by channel surfing. Pretty much agree with all your other picks.
I like Casino and I thought a lot of putting it in the top 10 but for every time i watch i will skip over it…a lot of drawn out parts
Casino has GOT to be on the list. Its virtually identical to Goodfellas on the “amazingness” meter. Come on John…
it isn’t even close to goodfellas…. it is a pretty good movie but just doesn’t do it for me …
A few good men…watching it now
i saw that, another good one but not in my top 10…. you know what else is on? ferris buellers day off…guess who isn’t watching it?
forrest gump possibly the greatest movie ever made…shawshanks a must and i love casino.. its very hard for me to change Scent of a Woman too.. it contains one of the greatest scenes in movie history…a bronx tale…fuck i could keep goin, u should of made a top 20 list…nevertheless a great top 10.. and by the way a lot of the shit on this site is fucking hilarious…good shit
forrest gump too long for me to put in top 10… i fucked up with shawshank i should have had that in there…. casino is hit or miss
another serious ommision by me…. the sandlot! how the fuck did i forget that?
zoolander, D2: mighty ducks (might watch 1 every now and then, do not recognize D3 as a movie) and major league
i was close to putting zoolander but i find myself clicking over it lately so can’t go top 10…. i love both mighty ducks that is a good one…. no to major league i hate everything that charlie sheen does… emilio not so much
now that i saw sandlot again on tv last night i want to apologize again for not putting it on the list… i really fucked up with sandlot and shawshank….
What about Dances With Wolves? Grandma’s Boy? Unforgiven? Heartbreak Ridge? The Outlaw Josey Wales?, and it is newer but Gran Turing? Can you tell I am a bit of a Clint Eastwood fan?
