A South Boston staple but not one of my favorite joints. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind having a drink there every once in a while but I’m not making a day of it.

Bah: The Junction (Dorcester St)

Set-up/Ambiance: Square bar that fits like 20 people or so and then a bunch of high top tables surrounding the walls. Not a large place but comfortable. Nice crowd Thursdays and Fridays after work. I find it a good place to get a beer on a Saturday day while you make your plan of attack for the rest of the day. Definitely not a place I’m shutting down.

Bartender(s): I’ve always found the bartenders here to be pretty pleasant. If you come in a few times they remember you. You don’t get a ton of free drinks but when I order my Goose they fill the shit to the fucking brim. I got no beef with any of them.

Crowd: You got your typical Southie yuppies here with the occasionally blue collar worker stopping in for a quick one. I’ve never really spiked up a conversation with anyone cool in this place. I’ve also happened to be in this place a bunch when bar crawlers show up (which I fucking hate). Not a ton of regulars like Tommy E’s. Eh.

Food: They have a pretty damn good appetizer menu. They got pretty much the basics for bigger plates/entrees. I wouldn’t bring a date here but it is a good place to get a bite with your boys before getting LOADED or recovering from a hangover.

Jukebox: Looks like they had one of the old flip CD jukes. However, they were playing their own mix on the ipod, which usually sucks. One of the few places in Southie that doesn’t have a Touchtune Juke. Major points lost here.

Specials/Drinks Specialties: Yes, they have specials. Usually, you can get like 4-5 beers (Miller Lights, Bud Lights, etc.) for under $20. they offer a shit load of imported beers so that got that going for them.

Keno: Nope. This place was fucking designed for Keno too. I remember bringing my mother when I moved to Southie. She was rip shit.

Extras: Many nights they got some hacks singing in the corner. I’m not a big fan of it. It is a small place and I’m usually trying to watch a Sox or Celts game. The last thing I want is some dude in his mid-20′s trying to sing Bryan Adams covers while Big Papi is up in the 9th.

They also have a bunch of drinking quotes which I find dumb but I’ve seen other kids bust a nut to them. To each their own. They also change the color of the place outside like every 2-3 months, yellow, green, red, blue, etc.

Overall: 6.9/10  – Bobo Recommended (but not crazy about it)

Past Bahs Of The Week

I’ve decided I’m going to officially roll out this column every Wednesday. If you have a bar in the SF and Boston/North Shore area you want me to give my two cents on just let me know.
